Kristin began teaching elementary school in Queens in 2005. She taught through COVID, remote learning, and periods when her students faced serious challenges at home. The job has been overwhelming many times, and burnout has been a real and constant threat. What kept her going was the school garden. Gardening with students became her lifeline, a place where the pressure lifted just enough for connection and something tangible to grow. Kristin stays committed to the work, motivated by the small moments of progress that prove the job still matters.
